Specialized in OCD, anxiety, and trauma therapy for children, teens & young adults

At JP Counseling Services we provide tailored individual and family therapy for children, adolescents and young adults living in Texas and California.

We understand the challenges that come with trying to navigate daily life while fighting unwanted intrusive thoughts and images,  anxiety,  and or trauma . We are honored to be a part of your journey to help restore a sense of confidence and freedom.

Areas of Focus

  • Unwanted recurring thoughts and excessive worrying often leads to feelings of confusion, fear, frustration, embarrassment and isolation. It is not uncommon for these worries and feelings to start small and grow over time. In addition, parents can also feel stuck, confused and unsure of how to move forward in supporting their child. I am here to let you know I can help you and your family experience freedom from OCD and anxiety through Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), an evidence-based treatment.

    ERP:

    • Is the gold standard treatment for OCD and anxiety with a 65%-80% efficacy rate

    • Is collaborative and gradual

    • Includes parents and other loved ones

    • Helps you or your child face fears and gain confidence

    • Builds skills to resist repeated behaviors (compulsions)

    • Allows you or your child to learn worries can naturally decrease on their own

This may sound intimidating; however, I will be with you and your child each step of the way, finding ways to make this fun while offering validation and encouragement. We will work as a team to celebrate the small and big victories during our work together!

  • After experiencing a traumatic event a child, teen or young adult can be left feeling overwhelmed, avoidant, scared, isolated, and maybe even overly cautious of the world around them. If you are a parent of a child who has experienced a traumatic event, you may also be feeling lost and unsure how to best support your child. Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence based treatment, helps address these concerns.

    TF-CBT:

    • Is the gold standard treatment for children and teens (ages 5-18) who display trauma symptoms

    • Has an efficacy rate of 84%-92%

    • Directly includes parental support

    • Helps process distressing memories

    • Teaches coping skills and provides resources for both the child and parent to rebuild an enjoyable life worth living

At JP Counseling, Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is utilized for young adults - 18+ who are experiencing PTSD.

    PE:

    • Is an evidence based treatment with 30-60% of patients no longer meeting criteria for PTSD after completing PE treatment

    • Aids you in confronting feared memories or situations that are usually avoided through supported exposures in a safe environment

    • Helps you emotionally process the traumatic event and make sense of it

    • Allows you to learn that thinking about a traumatic event is not dangerous and that being upset or anxious is not dangerous

    • Supports you in becoming less fearful of other situations that remind you of the trauma

    • Provides an opportunity for you to regain self confidence

  • Are you a fellow therapist and in need of consultation for yourself or a group of your employees? I can provide training and consultation related to OCD and anxiety using ERP treatment

  • JP counseling services specializes in working with children, teens, and young adults. If your child is not ready to start therapy and as a parent you are looking for support, please book a consultation to discuss how I can continue to support you.

  • Whether we are working on anxiety, OCD, or trauma, we will have a mix of family and individual sessions. For children and teens, it is especially important for the family unit to be included in services, so parents or other loved ones are required to participate in aspects of treatment. It is also important for the child or teen to feel they have their own space to talk freely, which is why I also incorporate individual sessions into our treatment plan. Please note for all first and second sessions, if your child is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian is required to attend these sessions.

Family sessions are not just for parents. Family sessions can include spouses, partners, or even extended family members if warranted.

  • Individual sessions tend to be held for those older than 18. However, please note that if you have loved ones that are highly involved in your life, I may recommend including some family sessions to ensure you are getting the most effective treatment. This is something we would discuss together before initiating.

  • Consultation and training is intended for other professionals who are eager to enhance their learning around ERP treatment for anxiety and OCD. Consultations can be over the phone or video calls. Prices for either will be the same.

Depending on your need, training may include a one-day training or on-going training to an individual or a group. These prices may vary, so please book a call to determine what would best fit your needs.

It’s not easy starting therapy and it’s a brave first step you are taking! I want you to understand the services I provide so that when we start our first session you know what to expect. If you are a parent or caregiver seeking services for your child, we can use the consultation as a way to explore what therapy options would best suit your family.
